2021 TR East Wrestling
After some lean years, TR East has been trending upwards the last few seasons as more and more talent comes in from the feeder program.
The strength of this year's lineup looks to be in the run from 132-170. Senior Michael Conklin, a TCNJ commit, enters the season with 115 career wins. Conklin is a 3-time District Champ, a 2-time Region Champ, and a 3-time State Qualifier, and gives the Raiders a hammer in the middle of the lineup. He's joined in this stretch by a strong supporting cast including fellow seniors Eddie Totten, a 2-time District Medalist, and Oscar Serrano, junior Joe McCullough, a District Champ in 2019 and a returning State Qualifier, and sophomores Nicholas DeLorenzo, who won 18 bouts last year, and Anthony Lawrence, a 3rd place finisher in D25 last year.
Up top, senior Yusaf Ahmed is back. A 21-match winner, he gives the Raiders a veteran presence to break in some new starters around.
Down low, junior lettermen Zackery Gorlin and Gavin Singer return and give East some experience in the lowerweights as they look to break in some promising newcomers into the lineup. Among them are a trio of promising freshmen in Kurt Wehner, Jaton Wellington, and Richie Kulessa.
There's a good mix here of proven seniors, talented returners, and very promising newcomers. The numbers are good, and the program looks like they are continuing the ongoing upward climb they have been on the last few seasons. Obviously, the schedule will be tough with their usual A-South foes, including the opener against Brick Memorial, but this is a very solid team that looks like they should earn their first winning season since 2018, and make a lot of noise in the individual postseason.
